How to Make a Lasting Impression in Your Next Interview

Nov 16, 2018 9:04:00 AM

Even with many accessible resources and guides for interview preparation, people tend to either overlook or overthink the significance of lasting impressions. It is important to end an interview strong in order for the employer or hiring manager to have a positive association and memory of the candidate. It can be very difficult to start and end an interview on the right note because of tricky questions that are usually presented at those points in the interview. As the interview comes to a close and you think that you have made it, the interviewer concludes by asking “Do you have any questions for me?” This can be a challenging question because it prompts an open-ended response and it is the last opportunity to make a good impression. Already overthinking your possible questions? Calm your nerves by asking these interesting questions to successfully win over the interviewer.

“Do you have any questions for me?”

This question may not seem difficult because you could ask anything related to the interview or company, however this is the question that may leave the interviewer disappointed with a lackluster impression of the candidate. Review the following questions to help you stand out at your next interview and leave a lasting impression on the employer or hiring manager. Pick out at least three to five questions to ask during your next interview and see how the conversation changes:

  • Why did you decide to work at this company?
  • This question allows the interviewer to speak to their experience and further pitch the company.
  • What is the company’s philosophy on customer or client service?
  • This shows your interest in every process of the company and that you can make connections between the company, its clients or customers and the end results.
  • What are some important traits to have in order to be successful in this role?
  • This demonstrates your awareness of the necessary hard and soft skills to have for the job, and the question can help you determine if this job is a good fit with your own skillset and personality.
  • What are some of the challenges that may come up in this role?
  • This question reveals that you are ready and prepared to take on anything, good or bad, that may come up in the role.
  • Do you have any questions or concerns about my experience or credentials?
  • This question gives the interviewer an opportunity to ask more questions and discuss more about particular concerns, and it gives you the opportunity to explain yourself.
