Sick at Work: How to Prevent the Flu in the Workplace

It is that time of year again…flu season. The peak of flu activity is happening right now and will continue until February. That means everyone needs to take precautionary measures to prevent getting sick and spreading the illness, especially at the workplace. Employees that work in close proximity to each other are particularly susceptible to the flu and the other highly contagious illnesses. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people infected with the flu can spread it to others up to six feet away by droplets from coughing, sneezing, and talking. Others can also get the flu from touching surfaces and objects that have the virus on it, and then touching their face. Employees working so close together, sharing spaces and supplies are exposed to contaminated surfaces every day; therefore it is important to take steps, as an individual and a company, to help reduce the chances of getting and spreading the flu.

Bucks County: Limitless Activities and a Booming Job Market

Bucks County, Pennsylvania was established in 1682 as one of the four original counties of the state, the other three being Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia. William Penn named the county after Buckinghamshire, the county where he lived in England. Bucks County, which is substantially bigger than its neighbor Montgomery County, was initially even larger than it is today, encompassing all of what is now Northampton and Lehigh counties. Majority of the county was agrarian, which meant for generations farmers and craftsmen had a need to develop great transportation networks and infrastructure to extend to the markets of Philadelphia and beyond. Bucks County has a history of rich art and culture, agriculture and manufacturing like processing grains, lumber, textiles, and paper. This legacy continues today with a steadily growing population of 628,341, local hotspots for various activities and entertainment, and a thriving job market.

Montgomery County: Active Communities and Job Market

Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was created on September 10, 1784 from part of Philadelphia County. It was possibly named after Revolutionary War hero General Richard Montgomery or two legislators named Montgomery who played a part in creating the county. The county has a history of prosperous farms, forges, mills, and manufacturing that, at first, depended on the Philadelphia market to sell their goods and on its port to connect them to other regions. Following generations that built a large transportation network made it possible for Montgomery County to depend less on Philadelphia, and become an economic engine in its own right. Starting in the twentieth century the county began to develop and maintain its own employment opportunities, entertainment, shopping, and other activities. This still reigns true today with Montgomery County having a continuously growing population of 826,075, plenty of activities and entertainment, and a broad and active job market.
